  • Burns Fire Department gets a Lift

    The equipment may not be new but to many of the Burns Volunteer Fire Department it was new. The department has had small air bag lift capabilities for a while, but they have now been equipped with the larger and heavier lifting bags. According to Deputy Chief Brian Dolan, "The new bags give the department the ability to lift any type of vehicle that they might come across in their responses."     The Pine Bluffs Roping Club had their second 12.5 handicap team roping event last Friday. The club usually puts on a 10.5 handicap event but for a couple of nights move it to a 12.5 handicap. The attendance was a bit low but that did not stop them from having fun. Mother Nature cooperated but could not make up her mind as to what she was going to do.     Brady McKinney, a fifth grader at Burns Elementary School found gold at the Pine Bluffs Trail Days Junior Rodeo On Saturday, August 3. McKinney won the gold belt buckle in the junior breakaway event. McKinney has been competing for the past three years and is very good at it. He competes in the breakaway, team roping, and goat tying events. He started breakaway about three years ago. McKinney's dad, Chad McKinney got him started in rodeo about three to four years ago.     The Pine Bluffs Night Out event hosted by the police department must have had an agreement with Mother Nature. The weather was perfect for the BBQ and open pool.     This is the fourth year for the Conner Graves and Tyler Morgan Memorial Cornhole Tournament. Trail Days is the perfect time to host this event as both Conner and Tyler were local members. Conner Graves was an all-state graduate of Pine Bluffs High School. Tyler Morgan was an all-state graduate of Burns High School.     Mud volleyball is growing in popularity. The Trail Days tournament had 31 teams sign up this year, which was seven teams more than last year.     The Pine Bluffs Trail Days Covered Wagon Car Show was a huge success. Over 30 cars, trucks, motorcycles and rat rods owners showed up to display their hard work and results to a crowd of over 100 grateful spectators.     On Saturday the Pine Bluffs Trail Days Horseshoe pitching tournament was held at Reher Park. It was a clear blue sky, and the temperature was baking.     The Pine Bluffs Roping Club held its seventh roping event of the 2024 season last Friday night. The event held at the Pine Bluffs arena drew more than 45 ropers in what could be called the dust bowl of the season. The event was the sixth 10.5 handicap event held this season and had a total of 106 teams. This was the largest number of teams this season.     Pine Bluffs Trail Days kicked off with the 24th annual 5K/1 mile Longhorn Stampede Fun Run/Walk. The event started at 7 am on Saturday at the Pine Bluffs Community Center. The start line and finish line were both at the center. All total there were 45 contestants signed up. Ages ranged between eight years old and 69 years young. Runners came from all over the area.     Beau Scarborough, a Pine Bluffs High School graduate, qualified to compete in the Cheyenne Frontier Days Rodeo. Scarborough competed as a permit member and did very well. He did not finish in the money but just missed finishing in seventh place. His first ride scored a 70 and his second ride was a 74. Scarborough was then honored with a third ride in the rodeo.     One of the biggest events for Albin Day is the one pitch softball tournament. The tournament has 30 athletes that are divided into three teams. The team members each get a t-Shirt with the Albin Day logo and date and the color of the team that they are on.     Another fun event at the Albin Day celebration is the Horseshoe pitching contest. According to Kelly Krakow, the director of the event, "There aren't as many teams as there have been in the past.
