  • Pine Bluffs candidates look to help council keep moving forward

Charlene Smith, Pine Bluffs Post staff|Apr 25, 2013

Pine Bluffs is a great example of a community of respect and friendliness. All of the candidates for the 2013 Pine Bluffs council and mayoral election commented Pine Bluffs is a welcoming town. The issues facing Pine Bluffs might not loom as welcoming as the residents, but are still manageable. The water project the council contracted with 6th Penny tax funds has hit some unexpected hiccups. But just as the irritating gulps of air recede, the water project will improve service to the town and... Full story

  • B-I-N-G-O spells fundraiser

Charlene Smith, Pine Bluffs Post staff|Apr 25, 2013

After preparing over 125 pounds of ground beef and slicing and dicing the trimmings for tacos and nachos, the Burns and Carpenter elementary parent groups watched as families and students from both schools filled the Carpenter gym Saturday evening. Seating was a high a premium as a raffle ticket for the snow blower and quarter beef. Laramie County School District Number 2 trustee Tom Morgan took the mic to call the bingo numbers for the evening. The money raised will support the parent groups...

  • Losing to win - an amputated life

Charlene Smith, Pine Bluffs Post staff|Apr 25, 2013

Most people go their entire lives without knowing loss. A year ago yesterday, my family, more specifically, my youngest son, suffered a loss. But we are the type of family if one jumps we all jump; if one loses, we all mourn. And then we get back up to try again. Sometimes a loss is a way to nudge you to a better life. I tell my son about how many times Babe Ruth struck out, how many times Da Bulls passed the ball to Michael Jordan in the last few seconds only to have the can’t-miss-king miss th...

  • You're only as old as you feel?

    Patrick Cossel, Stevenson Newspapers|Apr 25, 2013

I used to say, or rather I still say, that your age is relative to how you feel. Although my age is quickly approaching 40, I maintain that I do not feel that way — at least not in my heart. My body, on the other hand, likes to give me subtle reminders. Recently, while getting my hair trimmed, my barber used a small trimmer to clean up the unsightly hair growing out of my ears and to clean up my eyebrows. I of course didn’t mind but had to think to myself, “when did this become the norm?...

  • Banner News

    Barb Cross|Apr 25, 2013

Good morning! Another week has blown by here in Banner County. We had a hard time having school last week due to snow and mud. When people end up in the barrow pit or stuck for hours, it is a good time to just stay home. After being re-scheduled three times the FFA Banquet was held Thursday evening. Members conducted their meeting, showed a video, served 32 guests a delicious meal and elected new officers. Awards were also handed out and the chapter received a $500 check from Panhandle CO-OP,...

  • Hereford News

    Carolyn Ragsdale|Apr 25, 2013

For the special this week at the Hereford Community Church Steve Hauer sang “The Anchor Holds.” The sermon topic was “Doubting Thomas.” The scripture for the day was John 20:19-31. The scriptures don’t tell us much about Thomas. We know he was a willing follower of Jesus, but after the crucifixion, he didn’t believe Jesus was alive again. John 20:25 says “But Thomas said, First, I must see the nail scars in his hands and touch them with my finger. I must put my hand where the spear went in...

  • Albin News

    Monte Lerwick and Charlene Smith|Apr 25, 2013

My coworker said these late winter days made her think we were living in Alaska. The hibernation-type weather makes me want to bake Christmas candy and go shopping. But spring is suppose to tease us this weekend with camping and fishing worthy weather. Maybe even some much needed yard work. The town of Albin will have their election Tuesday, May 7. Community members running for office include: Mayor Kelly Krakow for his reelection, incumbent Wic Rooney, Kelly Kriz and incumbent Bob Anderson are...

  • Looking Back

    Apr 25, 2013

1 years ago Gen. Sir Robert Baden-Powell believes in the woman who can do things, and the other day he held up Lady Baden-Powell as an exponent of this much-desired art. The chief and founder of the Boys Scout movement was describing a tour that his wife and he recently made in Algeria. “I saw Lady Baden-Powell,” he said, “not so long ago in — what is the feminine for shirt sleeves? — scrubbing out a saucepan. We were living the simple life in the dessert. We had only one pan, and that was a saucepan. It had to do for frying our fish in t...

  • Iron Sharpens Iron

Cynthia Shroyer, Pine Bluffs Post staff|Apr 25, 2013

A small news item in the Internet caught my eye a while ago. It seems a 12-year-old boy in New Zealand was playing at the waters edge and was swept out to sea. A police officer attempted rescue and got in trouble himself. Now it would be easy for the rest of the people on the beach to watch and wring their hands and hope someone comes to the aid of the boy and his would-be rescuer. You can hear the conversations — “Oh dear, someone help them!” “His poor mother!” “Did anyone call for help?” Whil...

  • No-till notes - adoption of no-till on irrigated acres

    Mark Watson|Apr 25, 2013

Thankfully we finally received a blanket of wet snow across our growing region. There is also more snow in the forecast which should help us to recover from the prolonged drought we’ve experienced since last growing season. This welcome moisture will begin to add to our soil moisture profile for the upcoming growing season. The past couple of weeks I’ve shown that no-till crop production on our irrigated acres has many benefits. Economic analysis of no-till crop production has shown no-till to... Full story
