  • Texas Trail Market a target for burglary?

    Polly Taylor|Sep 3, 2015

Pine Bluffs may be a small town where everyone feels safe enough to leave the keys in their car while they run into the post office, or leave their homes unlocked, but it's not immune from crime, or an attempted crime. Last Saturday night, about 30 minutes before closing time, a very dark skinned, African American male, approximately five feet ten to five feet eleven inches tall, and weighing somewhere between 175 and 200 pounds, according to Officer Char Madden of the Pine Bluffs Police...

  • Smokey times remind of state's worst fires

    Bill Sniffin|Sep 3, 2015

As I write this, the beautiful view of the Wind River Mountains out of my window is obscured. It is so smoky we are leaving our windows shut because it smells like a brush fire a short distance away. In this case, that brush fire is 1,000 miles away. It is hard to find a city or town from Cheyenne to Evanston or Powell to...

  • Great things happen at first meet

    Coach Justin Lee|Sep 3, 2015

It was a great day for the first race of the season. It was nice and cool with fast kids. We had a change of venue this year for our first meet this season, and we saw great things from our kids. The junior high had their first meet of the year also, having three girls - Erin Griese, Shelby Thurin and Gracie Keiter - and one boy - Sam Jensen - in the top 10 in their respective races. A fantastic way to start out the season, and a great way to get rid of first race jitters. The junior high boys...

  • No Till Notes: Field Pea harvest

    Mark Watson|Sep 3, 2015

Field pea production on our farm this year proved to be interesting, much like all the other crops we're growing. With all the abundant moisture you would hope this would equate to bumper yields. Other growing factors such as hail, cold spring temperatures, late snow storms, late freezes, and disease made growing the field pea crop a challenge. On our farm the field pea yields ranged from 0-70 bushels per acre depending on circumstances. I have heard of some very good yields this year around...

  • Banner County News

    Barb Cross|Sep 3, 2015

Good morning Banner County and welcome September! I sincerely do not know where the summer went. How 'bout you? Although the past few days have been hitting close to 100, the cooler weather will be great. Even the chickens all but stopped laying, told me it was just too hot! Banner students have spent this past week at State Fair High School Academic Competition. I do not know how well they did. Another local fellow who is competing in state horse shoe throwing is Bill Nelson. We will try to...

  • Albin News

    Charlene Smith|Sep 3, 2015

September snuck up and took away our summer. Now, instead of lawn mower racket, we have school bus brakes in the morning. Instead of tasty sniffs from the barbecue, we have the smell of burning leaves and yard waste. Instead of early morning sunrises, we have early sunsets. No fear, Albin friends and neighbors. Labor Day weekend is a few days away. You still have time for a weekend getaway to Hawk Springs. Or take in the home opener for the Cowboys in Laramie. Or maybe fire up that grill at...
