  • Many enjoy cream can supper as dig site closes for the season

    Karen Lipska|Sep 8, 2022

The tables were lined with people eating supper at the Archaeology site in Pine Bluffs, Wyoming. This was an end of the season celebration. The Archaeology dig site has a history way back in time before Pine Bluffs even existed. There are pictures and information on how the dig got started. This year Lois Rageth and Kamie Tangeman had the pleasure of giving the tours through the site. Rageth realizes how important it is and how little she knew before working at the site. Throughout Rageth's...

  • Ranked Choice Voting is Bad for Wyoming

    Mike Heath|Sep 8, 2022

Nobody would disagree that Wyoming is one of the more conservative states in the US. Yet our legislature, in many ways, does not reflect the values of the electorate. Ranked choice voting has been lauded by Democrats and the Left as how Wyoming should conduct its voting for several years. I heard Senator Rothfuss (D-Laramie) testify before the Senate Corporations Committee multiple times while Tara Nethercott was the Chair. The committee has, so far, rejected the concept. During the Joint Corporations Committee meeting on August 25th the topic...

  • Patriot Day An American Day

    Penny Merryfield|Sep 8, 2022

What is a "Patriot"? According to the Oxford dictionary, a patriot is a person who vigorously supports their country and is prepared to defend it against enemies or detractors. This does not require a uniform, but sometimes does....a policeman, a fireman, a member of the United States Armed Forces. Looking back at September 11, 2001 many can look back and remember with fear, sadness, worry and eventually anger. It was a time of disbelief that this horrible tragedy could happen in our country. Ye...

  • Preparing for Winter

Mike Heath Laramie County Master Gardners|Sep 8, 2022

Although it's hard to believe, it's September and winter is right around the corner. Today I'm expecting another 90 plus degree day with no rain in sight and low humidity. That we're already dry is no revelation to anyone but this puts our winter preparation into high gear to get ready for what some are predicting to be a colder, wetter winter season, starting in December. I'm actually hoping for another month of warm weather. It doesn't have to be as hot as it is now but planting garlic and...

  • Dawn Smith places at Laramie County Fair

    Karen Lipska|Sep 8, 2022

Colorful glass that was soldered together is what Dawn Smith does. At the Laramie County Fair, Dawn Smith received lots of ribbons for her projects. Smith has only been working on stained glass for eighteen months. She had a friend encourage her to take a one-day class. Smith and her daughter Jennifer Winslow did it together. She figured she could teach 4-H members to make projects. Smith loves the colors and the different patterns to create the projects. After the one-day class they decided to...

The Pine Bluffs Lady Hornets volleyball squad took on the Lingle Doggers team last Thursday in Pine Bluffs. The C and B teams started the night off and they did pretty well. The C team beat the Doggers in two straight games to win the match. The Hornets beat the Doggers 25-15 in the first game and then 25-22 in the second. The B team didn't fare as well as they fell to the Doggers in two straight games. The Hornets were not going down easy as they were able to run off nine straight points in...

    Jim Merryfield|Sep 8, 2022

The Pine Bluffs Hornets football team started their road back to the state championship with a road trip to Shoshoni to face last years champions the Shoshoni Wranglers. It would be the #1 vs #2 ranked teams squaring off this evening. The Hornets were ranked #2 and were in the final 4 last year while the Shoshoni team were last year's champions. Both of these teams have talent and experience. The Hornets were the first to put points on the board with a 38-yard touchdown connection from Stu...

  • Burns Broncs dominated by Yuma

    Jim Merryfield|Sep 8, 2022

New head coach Travis Romsa had been working hard with the Burns Broncs football squad this year. He was looking to turn the tide and have a better season than the 2-7 season of last year. The team hosted the out of state Yuma, Colorado team last Thursday. It would be a disappointing outcome but many lessons were learned and the team will practice and improve on them. The Broncs defense had a problem containing the strong Yuma run game. They were able to hold the Yuma team to no points in the...

  • Burns/Pine Bluffs XC Boys take First

    Jim Merryfield|Sep 8, 2022

The Burns/Pine Bluffs cross country track team traveled to Gering last week to compete in the Gering Cross Country Invite held at the Five Rocks Amphitheatre. It was a great start for the team who’s roster is almost full. Coach Ashley Rousseau had this to say, “We almost have our entire roster of 55 (52 runners) competing this week–we still are nursing injuries, have had some sickness come through the team (I think the hot hot days aren’t helping), and had some families travel as well–so only 44 raced today—only 44?!?!?! We should have ALL race...
