I am not afraid of tomorrow for I have seen yesterday and I love today. – William Allen White This is a message for 2017 graduates – there are just two times in your lives when you feel you are done with learning and just do not want to learn any more. First is when you graduate. Enough already! You have had your poor brain filled with so much stuff in your young life, that you are ready to just go out there in the working world and start using all that knowledge. The second time is when you...
The Homeland Security and Government Affairs (HSGAC) Committee voted May 17 to advance two bills that could help control excessive government regulations. The bills, cosponsored by U.S. Senators Mike Enzi and John Barrasso, both R-Wyo., would give Congress new options to review regulations and rules proposed by bureaucratic agencies, such as the Environmental Protection Agency and the Department of Labor. Enzi, who serves on the HSGAC committee, voted to advance both bills so they can be considered by the full Senate. “Congress has given far t...

Good morning! Hopefully this week will bring us more sunshine and less rain, at least long enough for the fields and our yards to dry up some what. I should not even mention the roads, several of which are dangerous to even be on. Others are in great shape, but if you have no choice but to travel on the bad ones, well there you are. It is bright and beautiful this morning and very, very green! Well there is still about a week of school left for many schools in the area, but we here at Banner...

The end of school brings field days and class trips. If you are curious about how the future generation’s minds work, take the time to watch elementary races. Some runners hit it hard, never look back. Some get out in front and turn to check on who is behind them and how close. Some just run the race without a bead of sweat or worry crossing their brow. But the most curious is the one that comes in last. The norm is for the last guy to really kick it in to give all effort. But the elementary m...
On Monday, May 29 of this year the nation will come together to recognize those of her young who have given their lives in the service of our country. In Pine Bluffs and the surrounding communities there is much to be grateful for the fact that so few of their sons and daughters have paid the supreme sacrifice. Of the more than 200 veterans interred in the Pine Bluffs Cemetery, only two were discovered to have lost their lives in service. One of them was Pfc. Donald Eisenhauer. The other as Pfc. Fay F. Marlatt, United States Army. From the...
“Dear Mom and Dad, Boy Mom, this is the life. . .Everyone gripes but I don't think there's anyone that would trade if for anything else. . .I enjoyed Poot's letter. Seems he's learning to write without going to school. I miss that kid more than you think. I hope that he will recognize me as quickly when I get home next time. I'll never forget how I woke him up, and he said, “Don” the first thing.” On March 21, 1945, the Fifth Marine Division dedicated on Iwo Jima their cemetery, wherein lay the bodies of those men who fell during the battle....

There are times when those with special needs or disabilities want someone to talk to, someone to play cards with, or to read to them or just someone for companionship. There are times when those caring for these individuals need some respite time but don't want to leave those in their care alone. That is when the Wyoming Senior Companion Program (WSCP) is ready to step in and offer, at least two hours a day, someone to fill those times when caregivers need time to themselves. Mary Reinhardt is...
