Outside of Carpenter sits a large number of buildings that is the home of Burnett Enterprises, a dairy, farm and feedlot. It has come a long way from the bare ground in 1998 to the present day. Jeff and Jay Burnett came from Hereford, CO. After college they landed in the Carpenter area to farm and feed cattle. Plans for Liberty Park were on the Agenda at the Oct. 9 Burns' town council meeting. Harvey Humphrey was present to discuss the plans. The plan is to start advertising in October for three weeks and have the bid opening on November 30. The projected time for Liberty Park to be 100% is September 1, 2018. On October 14 the parking lot of the Community Center was full of "climbing gear" for youngster and adults alike. The annual "Touch-A-Truck" was alive with people that braved the wind and colder temperatures to take a ride in the High West Bucket. WYDOT prepares for winter road conditions with two new pieces of equipment. Brian Erickson, supervisor of the Pine Bluffs WYDOT shop and the rest of the staff will be putting in long hours when the winter storms hit. After discussions were held and no objections in the public hearing part of the Annual Liquor License Renewals, it was sent for a vote. They were approved. Have you noticed an abundance of flying creatures in the area? It is the typical time of the year for the "Painted Ladies" butterfly migration. It seems there are a higher number of them this year, probably due to a great summer season of breading that boosted the population. Blue skies and flying objects were seen over the Bluffs on September 30, at least from 11:00 a.m to 4:00 p.m. It was the Pine Bluffs Kite Festival sponsored by the town of Pine Bluffs Parks and Recreation as well as Roger Hinckle/kite advocate. What is a War Room? In the town of Pine Bluffs it is a room that was started at the end of 2016, in the Texas Trail Museum. At the museum it is know as a "Tribute To Local Veterans" room, all began by moving over Martin Stickies items, that were in the main room. Travelers were greeted with a special treat at the visitors center last Friday. Members of the Donald Eisenhauer American Legion Auxiliary Unit 60 were serving up cookies and lemonade, as well as other helpful information. More than 30 travelers stopped by, during the 1 pm to 4 pm time frame, to enjoy cookies and lemonade. The total visitors at the center over the weekend was 713. Pheasants and youths come together. November 11, 2017, Texas Trail Ringnecks will be traveling to Lagrange for a work shop, along with Hidden Pines Retriever Club. Texas Trail Ringnecks is just one of the local groups in the Pheasants Forever chapter. High Plains is the adult group. Youth must be a 7th grader to begin participating and are allowed to stay in the group until the summer after graduation.
